Jared is distracted all right - it's not easy to move like that. Maybe Dawn will escort him to wherever he lives, and he'll invite her in to see his collection of Star Wars memorabilia.
fauxprof, an important difference between this Dawn-based story and a standard rom-com is that there is almost no chance of a happy ending in this situation.
Very solid reach into your bag of tricks Jared-- pulling kind an ambulatory version of the Frank Costanza short-stop move to get Dawn to grab you. Now the only question is if Dawn will dip and kiss him tomorrow.
Chin Napkin Groupie: I think she's also failed at attempting to make us feel sympathy for Dawn, Dr. Ned, Mary, Toby, Ian, Esme, Derek, Katy...well, pretty much everybody except maybe Mr. Allora.
KM's latest favorite plot device appears to revolve around questionable characters (Entertainer Esme, Jerky Jared) losing their balance and having to be rescued by a female character (Katie, Dawn) that readers have pretty much given up for dead...At least she's attempting to bring surprise to the story line...Personally I think this Jared sidebar is pretty weak unless it results in Jared and Dr. Ned coming to a pistol duel over Dawn...

Jared, I told you not to chew gum.

Today's Boldface Haiku is titled "But It Was Way Awesomer At The Roller Rink".
Auggh!
Whoa! Gotcha!
Fumbling Fool!
Distracted? He should be running away from her!
The Rom-Com is not my favorite movie genre, and this storyline seems to be developing into the lamest Rom-Com ever.

Ah, well...
You know, I honestly believe that KM is attempting to make us feel sympathy for Jared and utterly failing.

I wonder why Dawn didn't let him face plant into the ground? He's acting like a creepy perv.

@Lousie F: and the readers only win if both Jared and Dr. Ned's aim is true

Wanders: I forgot to say - astute observation re "fumbling fool"!
People should leave JJ "Jerky Jared" alone. Maybe he has a little balance issue, and needs medication.
No, that's too much of a stretch. He is just a klutz.
They better not let him carry the "specimen" tray from the lab.
