Ned didn't lie to Dawn, he just misinformed her. That makes all the difference, doesn't it? It's possible Ned himself was misinformed about what was happening when he and his wife got married. "Married? Really? Are you kidding me?"
I think Dawn must have done someone wrong in love in her previous life... That's the only thing that can explain the agonizingly bad situations she continually gets into when it comes to relationships...Well, that, and KM's need for a hapless foil to illustrate bad choices and to highlight the exceptional wisdom of Mary Worth...
LouiseF, I second your wise insights. Do our fellow MW boarders recall the old 'Highlights' magazine for kids? In it, various social situations were presented and two fellows, one Goofus and correspondingly, Gallant, would react in negative and pro social ways, each in a thoroughly predictable way. Let's face it, poor Dawn is our Goofus.
tkraft — I loved Highlights! I always thought Goofus was a self-centered jerk like Dr. Ned, though, while good old Dawn is more of a Doofus. (I'd say that means Jared gets to be Gallant, but he doesn't seem quite smug enough.)

Judging by her entrenched rationalization and moral equivocation, if Dawn does have principles, you'd need an electron microscope to find them.

Poor Dawn. She’s dense enough to absorb neutrinos. How does she find her way home from University every day?
Dawn! Listen to your tummy brain! The Flower Fairies are luring you into sin!
He does remind me of Dave, though. And of Zak. And of most young male MW characters actually.

Normally? You either do or you don't. The moral decision really is that simple. Dawn seems to have a wishbone where her backbone should be.
Dawn is understandably confused. She is 'adulting' and you can't spell 'adultery' without 'adult'. Understandable for someone as dim as Dawn.

Dawn needs to ask her internet addicted friend, Cathy, for better advice. Mary is on to you.
