Mary Worth 2795

This is what I love about Wilbur Weston. He can spend an entire year, traveling the globe and spending time with the victims of natural disasters, writing intimately about their experiences, thoughts, and feelings. He can lose the woman he loves to a 22-year-old millionaire, get scammed out of $30,000 by a salsa dancing bombshell, and spend hours eating muffins with Mary Worth... and not learn a single thing.

But at least the ending is "beautiful."

June gives us lovely scenery right out of a Dover Press coloring book, marred only by the silhouette of pudgy and fatuous Wilbur Weston. So, over the past week it has been proved that June can draw and Karen can’t write. Are we done here? New story on Monday? Maybe even a pool party? And please, oh, please, have we seen the last of the Tweedlebeedies?

Two secret messages today - bravo, Wanders! The second one is a doozy, and I hope that happens. I'd love to see the Charterstone pool overflow when Wilbur falls in.

Fauxprof, you zeroed in on everything perfectly. No more Westons and Beedies, including Tommy. Let's hope he stays in Goleta forever. And Wilbur's "great job" should be modified by having Ask Wendy revoked. He's completely unqualified to give anyone advice.

At this point I'm even ready for Mary to visit New York, the Tee Hee Twosome, and Olive. Olive should be about 17, right?

So Wilbur went for a walk right after breakfast and now he's watching the sun set. So he's been walking for at least nine hours. Fortunately, he had a lot of fat calories stored up to keep him going.

And nobody missed him.

I take it the subtext is that Wilbur has started smoking weed.

Today's Boldface Haiku is titled

"Wilbur Livingston Seagull".

(Is? Never.
Never.
Together, weren't.
Thought together.
Different, really.
Okay, necessary.
Sunsets: endings beautiful.)

Welp, that horse has been dead for quite some time. My guess is that the beatings won't stop anytime soon.

@Nance: “Wilbur Livingston Seagull”!!!!! I am helpless with laughter. The cat is concerned.

Karen Moy here: I will be away for a few weeks and have asked Ernie Bushmiller to fill in for me. The Weston-centric story will continue; Phil Fumble will play the part of Wilbur, and of course Nancy will appear as Dawn. Enjoy!

@fauxprof, @Gina--Thank you very much! (Hope you've settled the cat, fauxprof.)

I can't get the image of a seagull with a dark comb-over, wearing glasses and soaring above a western sunset (complete with smoldering hillsides in the background) out of my mind. Cue the Dan Fogelberg...Thanks, Nance!

@meg: Just the thought of Nancy playing Dawn has me laughing uncontrollably. Thanks for the morning chuckle.

Wanders, yet another suggestion for the Charterstone jukebox based on the first panel: I Want to Know What Love is by Foreigner.

@LouiseF--I'll be on the lookout today for a seagull with glasses and a combover. Will post pic of same if successful. LOL.

And instead of going out in a blaze of glory, yet another MW story line dies a slow, agonizing death.

Moy's endings are never beautiful.

But...but...so many loose ends that were not tied up! Can Wilbur not call his credit card company and have the $30K disputed? Call the police?

And now we are onto Ted Baxter visiting Mary all the way from Minneapolis. I hope he brings Georgette along for the ride!
