Mary Worth 2798

Jeff and Ted are like George and Lennie in Of Mice and Men. This will be a powerful story.

Are you kidding me? I can't remember ever being invited to a friend's house for dinner and being offered a muffin as an appetizer. Hey Mary, ever heard of crackers and cheese with a cocktail or a glass of wine? I wish Ted had leaned back and laughed those muffins right off the plate. And what about the seating arrangement? These two guys sit down next to each other on a loveseat?

Anyone can serve appetizers, but only Mary Worth serves #marysmagicmuffins! Wilbur may be laying outside Mary's door, inhaling. Who wouldn't want 6 of those babies before eating charred rib roast and Mary's special Splacked Potatoes, with a side of Creamed Kelk? And then bring on dessert, another recipe Mary developed! OH MY GOODNESS!

Wanders, your comparisons to "Of Mice and Men" are inspired.

"Tell me about the muffins, George."

Amazing reference, Wanders. I never would have thought of Of Mice and Men, but now can't forget it. I hope Ted never turns his back away from Jeff.

Anonymous and KitKat, you read my thoughts. Who serves heavy breakfast muffins before dinner? And Mary *developed* her recipe for muffins? Sure, because it's so hard to find a decent muffin recipe.

Just a couple of days in - and this storyline is already fun.

I was thinking Lenny and Squiggy.

Are those magical hash muffins?

I could see the power of the muffins during Wilbur's healing process, but enough is enough!

Ted's obviously a long-time bachelor. He's positively agog that he's about to eat a muffin that's . . . OMG . . . HOMEMADE! As if the concept had never occurred to him before.

I repeat my prediction that muffins are going to be the darkhorse nominee in the Worthy Awards this year for "Best Recurring Character"..They should have their own category, in fact. "Best Recurring Character in an Appetizer Role"

Today's Boldface Haiku is titled

"Settle Down, Ted Miller. Mary Has Already Been Down The Pink Path Of High Stakes Baking Before, So If You Sense An Investment Opportunity, Sharpen That Pencil".

Hour. Muffins.
Homemade?
Yes. Recipe.
Oh my goodness!

Once, Mary understood the concept of appetizers. At the last pool party (remember, when we first met Olive?), she served her chicken salad appetizers. So tasty, and an excellent source of salmonella.

Mary made so many muffins for Wilbur, these are just leftovers she had lying around in the kitchen. They must be pretty stale by now.

What, no salmon squares???

I'm glad I am not the only one who thought muffins was an odd appetizer choice. I've never been to someone's house and was offered breakfast before dinner.

I suspect those muffins are laced with LSD or that Ted, ever the "character", is messing with Mary. Tomorrow's strip Ted will say after "Oh my goodness" "These are lousy!"

@fauxprof: That's exactly what I was thinking! Muffins?!?!?!?!? I want some chicken salad appetizers! I also remember Mary's vegetable terrine. Maybe she is serving that with the rib roast! Soon we'll be hearing all about Ted Miller's problems! I can't wait! But Mary, I will really need a cocktail for this. Where do you keep the tequila?

So far, Ted really hasn't had much chance to illustrate how much of a character he is..I can tell Mary is trying to bait him with that comment about how she "developed" her muffin recipe. Now if he said something like "Jumpin' Jimminy, fresh muffins!" or "I haven't had a good muffin since God was in diapers!" I might buy that he has potential as a "character"...Nance, I'm glad you picked up on the possibility that Mary is once again on (as you put it), the "Pink Path of High Stakes Baking".. Love it!
