Sorry, I’m still strange food obsessed (because there’s nothing much in the storyline to catch my attention). Whatever Mary’s concoction is, it’s plated like a dessert, not an entree. So let’s assume it’s a sweet “treat” of some sort. If it were presented as a signature challenge on The Great British Baking Show, I don’t think Paul or Mary would call it “tempting”.
Dawn suddenly realizes that California and France are a long way apart and that frequent visits aren't in the cards. Hope you like kissing a screen, Dawn. I'm sure that won't get old anytime soon.
Hugo will quickly get tired of Dawn's incessant whining about the distance and not understanding why Hugo won't move to the US. Hugo will end the relationship by not responding to her daily multiple Skype calls, blaming the lousy internet in the US.
So much for my speculation that the “food” was Kelk/Splak Lasagna. I’m with @fauxprof on this one. It’s a “dessert” that’s definitely not worth the calories, even if it’s a calorie count of zero.
It’s dawning on Dawn that distance is a key component of [cringe] “doing long distance.” Geography has never been a strong suit of hers. Sigh!
Are we going to get more details on Mary's friends who "did" long distance from different states? Inquiring minds want to know. I'm a little skeptical about Mary's ability to evaluate whether or not a relationship is successful.
Wanders said earlier that since he's posting while on the road -- doing long distance, if you will -- it's not feasible for him to format secret messages. So we can look forward to seeing them again when he's back home from vacation.
Wait a minute! How do we know that Arthueur was in the same state?
And I would like to say that my son and his beloved carried on a long distance relationship for four years....then he moved to Germany. All say 'aye' if you'd like Dawn to move to France.
Wanders: it's been way too long since I dropped in to catch what's going on in Mary's world, and all I can say is, I don't like this artwork. It's a little too "cartoony" for me to take the soap opera storylines seriously, and a little too "soapy" looking to be funny. It's almost like "Luann."

Mary: I make a long distance relationship work. The real trick is keeping him at a distance when he lives right here in Santa Royale.

Today's Boldface Haiku is titled
"Doing Long Distance Is Brutal".
Know survived?
Yes...
State, country.
Sigh.
More, don't we?

Side note: I can't remember the last time I was able to view a hidden message. Anyone else having trouble? (I'm on a Mac, FWIW.)

Does Estelle and Wilbur in Mozambique count?
@S. -- thanks! Glad it's not a glitch!

No can do. All her clothes are purple, not black.
Dawn doesn't have nearly enough savoir faire, not with that hair. No matter how many little scarves she ties around her neck.
