Wanders and @Nance, you got it. Iris will leave with a prescription and in no time at all she’ll lose 25 pounds, sport newly lush hair, and be brimming with energy. She’ll move her duffel bag and suitcase back to Zak’s place, thank Zak profusely for rescuing her from A Fate Worse Than Death, and they’ll lock lips and clink their wine glasses. Back at Charterstone, Wilbur will get a glimpse of Iris locking her vacant-again condo. He’ll dump Estelle and begin stalking Iris again. Etc., etc., etc., ....
So does Zak's (private?) doctor work at the Zakiks Studios office building where he has a nice business office to confer with his patients? That's a nice executive chair he's sitting in. Do the patients undress in front of the giant window there? And lay down on his desk?
r u ok? I was wondering the same thing. Dr. Moe's office is a bit sparse. Another question: Is it okay for Zak to be in on this tete a tete? After all, he's not a family member. I guess in Charterstone they don't have HIPPA regulations.
Garnet, I called pregnancy. I'm still annoyed at Iris for taking Dr. Dismissive's word as fact and ran off, not saying a word to Zak. Every woman in the Worthverse is an idiot.
Garnet, I went for the biggest possible spread and bet on the hypothalamus.
"Hypothalamic disease therefore affects the functioning of the pituitary and the target organs controlled by the pituitary, including the adrenal glands, ovaries and testes, and the thyroid gland."
Wow! The past several weeks of the Iris/Zak non-drama summed up in Nance's BFH! Looks like we can just skip reading MW and check in with Nance's boldface haiku to see what's happening. Might be more efficient than slogging through the dailies, but who needs efficiency in the Worthiverse?
"Did he test your thyroid? No? Well that's gotta be it then. You should take something for that. Stop by in six months and let me know how it's going."
HIPPA, SCHMIPPA. Apparently, in the Worthiverse, one is not allowed any medical treatment unless accompanied by a "buddy." Remember 25-yr old Tommy on the exam table with his mommy standing right there? Good thing for Zak Dr. Howard isn't recommending that Iris have a colonoscopy!
My wife could tell you from personal experience that just because your thyroid problem is diagnosed, it doesn't mean smooth sailing ahead. Even with hormone therapy, it is difficult to maintain the proper levels, and difficult to find doctors who appreciate that the proper levels are not the same for everyone. She has often had to deal with professionals telling her that her test results show her levels are within the prescribed range, so she MUST be feeling okay. Good luck, Iris.
I called hypothyroidism. I was recently diagnosed. I'm sorry to hear that Ms. Yahoonski isn't doing well. I never had many symptoms and I seem to be responding well to the meds. Good luck Iris. I'm not sure my meds are available in Santa Royale. It'll all depend on whether or not Moy has a new story line ready to go, right?
Yahoonski, you are absolutely right about thyroid problem,s. My husband has hypothyroidism (the one where it totally stops working.) He told me that it was touch and go until they could get the level of medication correct. Unless Dr. Moe is an endocrinologist, he's not going to have a clue. But that would be par for the course for any doctor in Worthverse and I'm sure Dr. Moe is no exception.
KM must have been advised by Dr. Google on this non-story:
Here are 10 common signs and symptoms of hypothyroidism. Feeling Tired. One of the most common symptoms of hypothyroidism is feeling worn out. ... Gaining Weight. ... Feeling Cold. ... Weakness and Aches in Muscles and Joints. ... Hair Loss. ... Itchy and Dry Skin. ... Feeling Down or Depressed. ... Trouble Concentrating or Remembering.
Even with therapy things don't just go back to normal. In the real world Iris would stay fat and bald. Doctors really do dismiss these symptoms, a shame Dr Google can't prescribe medication. My friend was in her early twenties and had a family history of hypothyroidism when she experienced these symptoms and her doctor refused her requests (!) for thyroid testing. Finally she threatened to drop her doctor if she didn't test her and guess what? Hashimodo's syndrome. She still dropped the doctor, of course.

The plot twist is that Wilbur was poisoning her thyroid gland with radioactive iodine so thy can both be bald fat and tired together .
