At first I thought Mary said, "Isn't that ALL we're looking for in companions?"
Someone who makes me laugh and I can be myself around. In other words, no expectations for personal growth and spiritual development. Sure sounds like relationships are easy.
And the Charterstone Jukebox has been updated for Christmas. Enjoy!
"I miss him, Mary. Do you know anyone who can teach me basic marksmanship? I don't need military grade sniper training. Just being able to hit the broadside of a barn with a handgun should be enough. I mean, have you looked at him?"
“I can be myself around him, such as when I’m belting out numerous songs about how repulsive he is to be around. And he makes me laugh, in growing exasperation and disbelief as his similar antics drive away my much more handsome, considerate and wealthy suitor. Isn’t that what we’re all looking for in companions?
Oh wait, it’s not. I was instead looking for the companionship of my one-eyed cat, and found she’s superior to Wilbur in every way. Thanks for reminding me, Mary.”
The only thing I can figure out is that when Wilbur is moody, he hangs around Mary all the time and she can't stand it. So she's doing all she can to offload that tub of goo back on Estelle.
Ah! The Meddle Machine in action. Estelle's resistance is fading. She'll be back singing "There's No Place Like Home for the Holidays" with Wilbur soon.
What kind of mind-control substance does Mary put in those muffins? Tomorrow she’ll have Estelle over at her place, cleaning the oven, scrubbing the kitchen floor, cleaning the toilet bowl….
If Mary believes her own claptrap, it speaks volumes about her relationship with Jeff.

What kind of kompromat does Weelbur have on Mary, anyway?

Not nice, Mary.

"He makes me laugh. In fact, the night he threatened to kill Libby, I laughed so hard I fell off the piano bench and wet my pants."

"... We're never, ever, ever, getting back togetherrrrrrrrrrr ... "
Someone doesn't take their Karaoke promises seriously ...
Sooooo- Estelle's best self accepts abuse, drunkenness, threats, and bullying? Interesting.
