If Zak falls into the falls and breaks his whatever, Iris won’t be able to see him in the hospital without permission from his next of kin. (That would be his large Wagnerian mama with a voice that shatters glass.) Or else Wilbur would show up as a member of the Rescue Corps and rappel down the rocky waterfall to save Zak. Or both. Then, on Monday, Iris can tell Mary all about it, so that’s something to look forward to.
Yep, no shotgun wedding here! Iris is way past that.
Maybe KM will pull off one of her rare Telescopings of Time, and “next weekend” will arrive by mid-week. Or, we could be facing a week of shopping for hiking equipment at Santa Roy Mart.
If Iris were an old 1970s feminist, she might well avoid marriage as a matter of principle, viewing it as a legal enslavement of women. But Iris is not that old. She's nothing but an empty-headed Gen Xer, with no political principles an old Boomer like me would consider worth mentioning.
I agree with everyone that there will be some kind of accident but I can’t decide which of these two will take the dive. I’m going to guess that Iris will be the one who ends up in the hospital and Zak will be furious that Dr Drew won’t allow him in to see her. Wouldn’t a fight in the lobby between Drew and Zak be great? Arm pulling, and coffee throwing, and nose tweaking!
- Iris cannot finish the hike due to arthritis or some other age-related issue.
- Zak seriously hurts himself.
Anything happening here will likely come after another week of Zak expressing disappointment and Iris just repeating ad nauseum that she's happy how things are and not really explaining her opposition to marriage.
meg: Yes! Yes! And Indian sunburns! My sincere apologies to any Native American reading this who might take exception to my use of the word ‘Indian’ but please understand that I am old; really old. And still in pain from that last sunburn my rotten older sister gave me.
meg: Sorry; I cannot bring myself to watch anything that stars Hugh Grant (gag) or a movie with Bridget Jones in the title... Colin Firth; well, maybe.

Wipe that hamburger gravy out of his stubble please.

So we're recycling dialogue as well as artwork. Very . . . something.

So it seems one of two things could happen:
- Iris cannot finish the hike due to arthritis or some other age-related issue.
- Zak seriously hurts himself.
Anything happening here will likely come after another week of Zak expressing disappointment and Iris just repeating ad nauseum that she's happy how things are and not really explaining her opposition to marriage.

Don’t forget noogies and wedgies!

I think a Zak/Drew “fight” might resemble the one between Colin Firth and Hugh Grant in Bridget Jones the Edge of Reason. Lots of cowardly slapping.

@meg -- My Fair Lady reference! Love it! (No, I'm not a Boomer, I'm just really into movies made before I was born!)
Gina- I was hoping someone would get it. Thanks!
Meg
Zak and iris have been together for 5 or 6 years. Have they never talked during that time?
